Barbara Lenz

Head of Institute of Transport Research, German Aerospace Center (DLR)

In 2007, Barbara Lenz was appointed Director of the DLR Institute of Transport Research in Berlin. At the same time, she is a professor for Transport Geography at the Humboldt University. As director of the DLR Institute, she has developed and well established research on transport demand in both, the passenger and the freight sector with a particular focus on the impact of new technologies on behavioral change. Prior to her current work at DLR, Barbara was a senior researcher in Economic and Social Geography at the University of Stuttgart where her focus was on regional development and transport and on the acceptance of new information and communication technologies (ICT) and their effects on transport demand. Her current research topics are the impact of automation on the transport system considering both the passenger and freight sector;, the interrelation between ICT use and travel behavior; and informal transport in developing countries.
