Chair, Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, President of Hydrogen Europe

Mr. Raphael Schoentgen is Chair at Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, a unique public private partnership supporting research, technological development and demonstration activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe. Its aim is to accelerate the market introduction of these technologies, realising their potential as an instrument in achieving a carbon-lean energy system. He is also the President of Hydrogen Europe, the leading European industry association representing over 100 companies and national associations in the fuel cells and hydrogen sector. Mr. Schoentgen also serves as the Director of Research and Technologies (CTO), at ENGIE Group (formerly GDF SUEZ).  Prior to this, he held various positions at the public and private sectors, including: Head of the Economic Development Department from France's northern region; Adviser for International and European Affairs to the Minister of France in charge of energy, telecommunications and industry; Senior Executive in a number of companies, including Alcatel-Lucent China, Gas de France Mexico and Degremont France and President of GDF SUEZ China. He has been Board Member of the French Institute of Petroleum and New Energies since 2014. Mr. Schoentgen holds a MA in Engineering from the Ecole des Mines de Paris and an MBA from Corps des Mines.
