The tour starts from the crossroads of Via Regia and Via Imperii, the oldest roads in Leipzig, on to the church ‘Nikolaikirche’ where the city was founded, and continues on to the University of Leipzig (founded in 1409) and the former trade fair building ‘Städtisches Kaufhaus’ through which the city got its Empire Trade Fair Privilege from the Emperor Maximilian. These sights and the famous passages provide an insight into the city’s past.
15:00 Visit to Auerbachs Keller
One of the city’s oldest and most popular restaurants and a favorite of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Includes a short guided tour through the historical wine cellar with its old wine barrels and the main cellar. Afterwards you will enjoy a little coffee break and try the famous Mephisto cake (coffee and cake are included).

Includes a guided tour where you can experience the more recent history of Leipzig, Saxony and Germany.
17:00 Walk through Market Square
As the tour makes its way back to the hotel you will cross the market square where you will see the old city hall, the ‘Alte Waage’ and the culturally and historically significant mansion ‘Königshaus’. The tour continues through Hainstraße which was mentioned in Fontaine’s literary works and where you will find the Hotel de Pologne. You will also pass the square Richard-Wagner-Platz, named after the famous composer and Löhrstraße from where you will return to your hotel.
