This session features case studies on the use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to regulate network access for heavy goods vehicles in order to limit damage to the infrastructure and increase acceptance of longer and heavier trucks. Demand for freight transport is set for continued growth and investment, and new infrastructure alone will not be enough to accommodate the increase. ITS solutions could reduce both the need for costly additional infrastructure and help contain the environmental impacts of road freight by facilitating High Capacity Transport (HCT).
